The 2012 opened with widely various music yearly awards shows, after prestigious Golden Disk Awards recently held in Japan, another celebrated music awards "Seoul Music Awards" was held on 19th January 2012.
The Seoul Music Awards reached it 21st anniversary since began in 1990 and is held annually by Sports Seoul to recognize outstanding achievements in the Korean music industry. It is one of the big four music award ceremonies in Korea, alongside the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, and Melon Music Awards.
The 21st Seoul Music Awards, which was hosted by Sports Seoul and was sponsored by High 1 Resort, the Visit Korea Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, chose its winners out of those singers who had released albums in 2011, combining 20 percent mobile ARS votes, 10 percent Sports Seoul’s popularity poll, 40 percent digital downloads and album sales, and 30 percent judge scores.
